Once you have confirmed a booking, El Gato Adventures will send you a preference sheet to complete. This lets us know about your likes and dislikes. Eating and drinking will be a very enjoyable part of your charter vacation! The more we know about you the better so we can stock the yacht with all of your favorite things. Your menus will be created around your individual food preferences and dietary needs with prior warning of your requirements.
You will need a current passport that does not expire within 6 months of your trip. Visas are not required.
When we are a few weeks away from the charter, we will confirm where the boat will be depending on which charter location you choose. Normally it will be approximately a 30 minute taxi ride to get to El Gato.
12 noon is the normal start time for a charter. This can be adjusted according to your flights and arrival time.
We prefer charters to start on the dates designated in the Charter Calendar. This allows us ample time to clean and restock between charters. If you need to arrive or depart a day earlier or later than these designated dates we will certainly try to accommodate you. You might also consider reserving a hotel room for the day prior and after your charter to get over jet lag and/or see more sights on land depending on where your charter begins and ends.
The usual time for embarkation and disembarkation is 1200 pm noon. However, it may be possible to change this time if it doesn’t suit your travel arrangements to or from the yacht.
As long as we can get phone signals we will have WiFI on board. We’ve found this to be the case 99% of the time with T Mobile. You can tether to our iPad or iPhone. It will however not be at the same speeds you are used to. If you truly want to go on vacation be prepared to store the electronics and let that stuff go. We’ll have chart plotters to play with instead.
Pay by check. Prior to payment, your contract will clearly detail the amounts and dates of payments due.
The charter agreement will document what happens in various circumstances if the charter is cancelled. We recommend the client to purchase trip insurance. Trip or Travel insurance covers your group in case of cancellation due to unforeseen circumstances. This insurance will protect you from any loss of cancellation fees.
Only if we decide to take a mooring or dock and these are not included. The BVI’s tend to have the most mooring fees as the most popular locations get crowded and don’t have anchorages close by.
They are approx $30/day in most locations.
We won’t dock unless you ask for one and those prices vary but tend to start at $100/night.
Yes. We have our boat phone and in some cases a Satellite Iridium GO!
We love kids and have 5 grown kids of our own.
Because our teaching charters are focused on learning and hands-on teaching we prefer kids to be at least 12 years old.

We have T-Mobile which works when we are close to shore in almost every country and island. You are welcome to use our phone for texting and short calls. Otherwise, check with your service provider and get an international plan whether it is for texting or calls, or both.
We can accommodate special diets and will send out a questionnaire asking for your diet restrictions and preferences. If you are a vegetarian or lactose intolerant, no problem, but please give us ample warning so we can shop and plan special menus accordingly. We will do our best given the location of your charter to purchase favorite beverages. Be aware that brands or items you find easily at home might not be available in other countries.
