Living aboard El Gato for a week with A&E was stress-free!! They were very hospitable and we always knew a delicious meal was coming. Annie’s an excellent cook and the presentation is so beautiful you will want to get your camera out at every meal. Our stateroom was extremely comfortable and private with plenty of room for our extra clothes we didn’t need. The salon is comfortable too but we spent most of our time outside. There was so much beauty all around us day and night. We truly took it all in and enjoyed every minute of every day. Looking through the rigging at the sunset or the moon is just like nothing else. It’s a feeling that will stay with you forever.
It was great hopping from island to island and not having to pack and unpack. A&E are both awesome coaches explaining clearly what is most important for our safety and how to operate the functions of the boat in a variety of situations from basic anchoring to steering by the telltales and tuning our attention to sea and wind conditions. Two hulls …No Ka Oi !! ….El Gato moved smoothly through all seas we encountered. We took turns at the helm and with either Eric or Annie by our side, we learned how all the functions work together to align El Gato most efficiently with the forces converging to propel us smoothly along our way. It was a rush of adrenaline like no other. We had the freedom to engage ourselves in anything we wanted to do or learn to do on El Gato. You can sense the passion and love they have for sailing and even more for sharing that stoke with us. The more curious we were, the more accommodating they were. Great chemistry!! We had the choice to enjoy learning anything we wanted to about sailing or just kick back and feel the awesome pleasure and peacefulness of gliding through the water.
We also wanted to do some hiking and once again our coaches planned ahead and arranged an awesome tour. This time of Dominica. It included stops at all sorts of local sites, including two waterfalls at the end of our walk through a rain forest. Our guide was a kindred spirit of an adventurer himself named Paul and he shared local knowledge of plants and local history. He was a safe driver too and knew owners at the restaurant and choclatier that grew their own cocoa. It was another memorable experience thanks to Annie and Eric and their ability to customize the trip to our desires.
We enjoyed the snorkeling, stand up paddling, hiking to some old French forts, and also just floating around on noodles behind El Gato in the warm tropical waters with a fresh Rum cocktail from the well stocked salon/bar.
The entire trip was better than we even knew it would be. The cozy little village communities among the interesting coves and bays were like stepping into a great novel you can’t put down. They came alive as we dove from the deck of El Gato and swam to the beaches or jumped into El Raton for a ride to a romantic evening of wining and dining at one of the fancy little restaurants in town.
Whatever we wanted to do A&E made it happen. They customized our activity plans to our thirst for adventure and delivered perfectly. The laughter, hoots and joking around made for a fun time and we all knew and appreciated that A&E had their eye on the calendar and the clock at all times so we didn’t have to. We were where we were supposed to be when we were supposed to be there including the procedures of checking in and out of customs in the various ports along the way.
This was truly the best vacation ever and …… we will be back !!
